INTO THE WAR ZONE
Walter Chayes just came to Las Cruces to share his thoughts and reactions to a recent visit to Israel in an interview and conversation at Temple Beth-El. This speaker was suggested by Joanne Turnbull and supported by the Social Action/Adult Education Committee of the Temple. Mr. Chayes had just participated in a Solidarity Mission organized by the Jewish Federation of North America; he embraced the chance to do something special. Participating with a number of other federation leaders for a first-hand look and experience of the Hamas onslaught of October 7, this group spent 48 hours in Israel speaking with survivors and families of hostages and touring Israeli non-government organizations.
On this Sunday afternoon, the conversation was moderated by KTAL on-air program host, interviewer, and Temple member Stuart Kelter. The presentation was attended by between 45 – 50 people, who listened, completely absorbed with Walter’s experience there. Marla Cohen, executive director of the Jewish Federation of El Paso & Las Cruces also attended. There was time left for questions and comments and people took full advantage of the time to ask questions and express opinions.
